Supporting Youth Concussion Awareness & Recovery
Mind Matters is an initiative of Brain Injury Connections of the Shenandoah Valley dedicated to educating students, parents, coaches, and educators about concussion prevention, recognition, and recovery.
Concussions can have lasting impacts on learning, memory, behavior, and overall well-being if not properly addressed. For children, these injuries may disrupt academic achievement and lead to emotional, behavioral, and physical challenges. No child should have their potential limited by an injury that is both serious and, in many cases, preventable.
Our goal is to prevent further injury by educating the parents, coaches, and educators of children and teens so that they have a safe recovery and a healthy return to school, sports, and daily life.
Why Mind Matters
-
Concussions are common but often misunderstood.
-
Proper rest and recovery—typically 2–4 weeks—are critical to preventing long-term complications.
-
With the right knowledge and support, children can safely return to the classroom and activities.
